A message from the Chair of the Governing Body – Mrs Nicola Sheehan

I am proud to be the Chair of Governors at Shibden Head Primary Academy. I have been a governor at school for the last 6 years, initially as a parent governor and more recently as a Focus Trust governor. During that time I have been involved in a number of fundamental changes at school, not least of which was the conversion to academy status. Nationally, education in primary schools is changing and last year saw the introduction of the new primary school curriculum. Throughout all of these changes the governing body has remained focused in its role of raising school standards and ensuring the best possible education and educational opportunities for all our children.

I have a child in Year 5 and am committed to ensuring that she, along with all the other children are encouraged, valued and supported to reach their full potential. As a governing body we are responsible for setting the strategic direction of school, for monitoring and evaluating performance, for managing school premises, for setting the budget, for personnel management and supporting all pupils, parents and staff in order to give our children the best possible opportunity to succeed. As Chair of Governors I work closely with the school management team to promote and maintain high standards of educational achievement.

The Governing Body meets at least once per half term. I am very keen to hear parents and children’s views on any aspect of school life and I can be contacted through the school office.
