Phonics

Secure and solid phonic knowledge and skills are fundamental to success and developing fluency in reading. At Shibden Head we follow the First Class Phonics scheme in EYFS, Year 1 and Year 2. Rapid Phonics is used as an intervention from Year 3 for those children who have not passed the phonics check by the end of Key Stage 1, this is monitored carefully by the Phonics lead.
